The research lines of the UTIU Literature Faculty is carried out in close cooperation with the Partner Universities. The agreements with these Universities will enable, beside sharing laboratory and library resources, to participate ever increasingly in joint research projects at Italian as well as at international level.
Whereas since 2006 the UTIU, even though it could not dispose of internal researchers, was engaged in managing the Archeomap Project relying on the support of Faculty lecturers, since 2010, apart from the Tutors, there are also some Researchers.
The Faculty main research fields are the following:
Historical-Artistic Area
- The 17th Century Artistic Culture in Rome, with particular attention to the relations between Rome and Bologna – aspects of Roman Collecting: the Ludovisi Collection and recent research work on Collecting of the Middle Class in XVII Century Rome within the project funded by AUGE which is in progress.
- The 17th Century Roman Artistic Setting: social dynamics, the artists’ daily life and the various levels of artistic production

Historical Area:
- The study of the Florentine Uberti Family of which we intend to follow the success and decline, its exile and damnatio memoriae (research study that will start from in cooperation with the Middlebury College, Vermont)
- Critical Edition of the an unpublished work of the Medieval astrologer, Giovanni Paolo da Fondi, in cooperation with the Chair of Medieval History of the LUMSA (Libera Università Maria S.ssma Assunta) University of Rome and the Centro Studi San Giovanni da Capestrano

- Geo-criticism aimed at Mediterranean and Caribbean Cultural Areas
- Migration Italian Literature. Research work in progress: Destination Italy (ISO Oxford) and Migration and Literature in the Second Half of 20th Century (ICLA/AICL: International Association of Comparative Literatures)
- World Literature and Interculturalism

Starting from individual research projects – that in the past years were conducted by the Faculty Researchers jointly with Italian and foreign Universities and resulting in many scientific publications – the renewal of the Degree Course in Cultural Assets required an interdisciplinary coordination among the Faculty human resources. More specifically, the shift from the 509/99 regulations to the 270/04 regulations, at first envisaging two different paths (the Archival- Library Science one and the Historical- Artistic one) and later on the outlining of an hypothesis of inter-class three-year (L-1 / L-43) Degree Course in Conservation and Valorisation of Cultural Heritage envisaging three paths (Archaeological Heritage, Historical-Artistic Heritage, Archival-Book Heritage) requires a deep involvement of forces and competences that will developed further on.
