WP1 - Awareness Campaign 1 WP1 is dedicated to implement the NET communication plan and strategy, which will be the main tools to pursue the NETs objectives. It will support all WPs ensuring maximum visibility, accessibility and impact of the project. This will be defined by the IMPACT we achieve and a clear purpose will help us to reach goals targeting different users. The wide range of NET initiatives will be tailored to different target audiences depending on the age and background. Taking into consideration the preliminary analysis, a flexible strategy will be defined to contribute to different Net activities’ success and to bring about desired results, which will last a much longer time than that intended for the project. Furthermore, this WP will be responsible for spreading the message of the values on which NET 2024-2025 is based (including the use of a specific visual identity that acts as a file rouge tracing continuity between different activities) among partners, stakeholders and, more generally, in all locations where the project lives. A specific role will be played by the Uninettuno University thanks to the specific skills in the field of communication, that will established a special promote of NET by its free-to-air satellite channel. Finally, NET awareness campaign will be coordinated with other Italian ERN projects campaigns in order to strengthen and optimize efforts and outputs. NETs TOOLS: The main communication channels will be the project website and social media accounts. The web-site www.scienzainsieme.it will be periodically updated with specific pages dedicated to the ERN activities. “NET for School” will have a devoted area in order to improve the communication with teachers and students, and to disseminate the educational online products. The social media campaign will be managed to increase the interaction with the younger audience which has grown during the past editions. Main target of the awareness

WP2 - Activities during the NIGHT 2024 The aim of the WP2 activities is to create a memorable occasion for all audience categories, regardless of age and scientific background, to celebrate European science with NET researchers in welcoming locations where attendees will be offered a wide range of edutainment activities, children will be invited to play science, young people and adults to take part in talks with researchers, with a clear ‘heart’ for the activities. Rome is a leading centre for science and home to Italy’s largest concentration of research centres, laboratories and universities; in fact one of the largest concentration in Europe. Consequently in the last years we have developed a formula to celebrate the Night where Rome is the heart of the initiative (a major event with researchers from all NET partner institutions and representatives of the stakeholders): It is the NET village, an open-air area organized in sections that are devoted to the main themes equipped with gazebos showcasing science demos (including virtual reality simulations), hands-on activities, science games and quizzes and exhibitions. It is also present a stage for science shows (including music and artistic performance) and talks. In the past three editions of the NET Night, the NET village was installed in one of the oldest and renown neighborhood in Rome; the location contributed also to make the event a celebration of Rome as capital of science.

WP3 - Researchers at Schools activities 1 WP3 activities will be planned accordingly with the timing of the Italian school year, which starts in mid-September and finishes the first week of June. It means that, if as expected, the project starts in March 2024, we will have a time shorter that one month to plan and implement some activities for the first NET year, while at the same time we will be laying the basis for the activity plan to be carried out in the following year. Firstly, WP3, WP1 and WP5 will join effort to engage those stakeholders through which establish quick contacts with schools and realize activities; WP3 and WP1, in charge of scienzainsieme.it, will work at improving the NET per la Scuola pages (T3.9); in due time, WP3 and WP4 will produce the questionnaires targeting students and teachers; then WP3 and WP2 must plan and implement the contest (T3.7) and provide support to PTCO students (T3.6) interested in the ERN experience; finally WP3 and WP4 will work at assessing outputs and outcomes of the first school year, so that WP3 can produce a first draft programme, featuring gender balance, diversity and inclusiveness in science in terms of planned activities and researchers involved, for the coming school year. WP3 researcher’s activities will be organized in tasks, accordingly to the specified coordination action needed for their efficient and effective implementation. As far as contents and priorities, WP3 programme will capitalize on the feedback about past activities we received from teachers and NET researchers, that have long standing experience in working with the school sector and most are “NET repeaters”, that is have taken part in at least 2 past following NET editions. NET partners are aware that, except for cases of excellence in some lyceums, the Italian school systems has to cope with unsatisfactory performance in scientific learning. The 2018 PISA report, revealed that Italian 15year-olders scored below the OECD average in reading and science, and just around the OECD average in mathematics. The situation appeared critical for students from technical and vocational schools, where low performers were about 60% of the respondents. The report also showed that strong gender stereotypes can affect career choices and expectations of Italian students. The next PISA report is due in December, nonetheless the national annual Invalsi test on mathematical literacy showed that after the covid-19 pandemic students’ performance has even worsened. As a consortium made from some of the most important research and educational institution in Italy we feel called upon to contribute to addressing such a problem. NET Researchers will be encouraged to adopt the STEM/STEAM methodology, which has been taking root over the past several years and is gaining widespread consensus as a positive mode of action to have formal learning at school meet the needs of a 21st century technological economy. It means engaging pupils/students in problem solving, learning by doing, hands-on experimenting, interdisciplinarity, and informed debates on societal challenges and the role of research. To support researchers’ initiative, WP3 will pursue the policy of joint implementation that NET has established over the years, that is engaging researchers from different partner organizations in joint activities in all tasks, which creates opportunities for researchers to exchange ideas, improve communication skills and competences to interact with pupils and students. Moreover we want to realize a shared “STEAM Open library”, that is an online repository of open articles, reports and resources on STEM/STEAM education and policies, which have been increasingly produced over the past fifteen years. On the whole, tasks 1-7 all provide opportunities for NET researchers to introduce the EU 5 missions’ priorities and present their relevant EU funded projects, and in T3.2 and T3.3 we envisage to have a number of activities dedicated to introducing research careers to pupils/students.

WP7 - Activities during the NIGHT 2025 The aim of the WP7 activities is the same of WP2, being its continuation in 2025. The experience gained with WP2 will be exploited to implement imporevements. We are therefore committed to create a memorable occasion for all audience categories, regardless of age and scientific background, to celebrate European science with NET researchers in welcoming locations where attendees will be offered a wide range of edutainment activities, children will be invited to play science, young people and adults to take part in talks with researchers, with a clear ‘heart’ for the activities. WP8 - Researchers at Schools activities 2 WP8 will start in October 2024, there will be some overlapping with WP3 but this will grant that activities can be provided for the entire Italian school year. WP8 has to grow on WP3 results and make the best from suggestions provided by WP4 or by researchers and teachers themselves. We expect to increase the number of pupils/students and teachers involved thanks to the larger span of time we will have. WP8 shares WP3’s priorities and the concern about Italian students’ unsatisfactory performance in scientific learning and about the strong gender stereotypes that can affect their career choices and expectations. Methodology and approach WP 8 will follow the methodology worked out in WP3, with an approach which is comprehensive, inclusive and is to have a national scope. As for WP3, in WP8 NET researcher’s activities will be consistently organized in tasks, accordingly to the specified coordination action needed for their efficient and effective implementation. on the whole for WP8 we expect a turn over of about 20.000 students and above 350 researchers engaged.
