The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is one of the major public universities of Spain. It is located in Bellaterra, close to Barcelona. Currently, the University offers 87 bachelor’s degrees, covering a wide range of fields such as humanities and arts, social sciences, health sciences, technology and physical sciences. Furthermore, the UAB offers 133 Master’s degrees, as well as 8 Erasmus Mundus Master's degrees; more than 1,114 PhD dissertations have been elaborated within its doctoral programs. The University has over 37,700 students, almost 3,700 researchers and teaching staff, and it hosts more than 6,000 foreign students.
In recent years, the UAB has seen recognition for its efforts in promoting quality in teaching, in attracting international talent and in obtaining a growing impact in research, together with a progressive improvement in its classifications in the most prestigious and influential international rankings. Thus, the UAB is well as occupying an outstanding position among Spanish universities in world rankings. The UAB is the first-ranked university in Spain according to the World University Ranking (THE WUR 2016-2017).
QS Top 50 under 50 Ranking 2016 based on QS-WUR 2016-2017 data, which includes universities founded less than 50 years ago, the UAB ranks 9th in the world ranking, 2nd at European level, and is the first-ranked Spanish university.
It ranks first in the World University Rankings (THE WUR 2015-2016) and it is the second university in Spain in volume of scientific activity Scimago Institution Rankings World Report (SIR WR 2016). Among Spanish universities, it is one of the best and in 2009 was awarded with the label of Campus of International Excellence (only five Spanish universities received that recognition).
Since the beginning of EC Horizon 2020 programme (1/1/2014) the UAB has been funded with +32M€ for +60 Horizon 2020 European Projects, where 8 are leaded by UAB, including 8 ERC projects. Focus on international basis UAB has been funded with +127M€ for +120 international competitive projects, where 11 of them are leaded by UAB and 42 are individual. Related to ERC, UAB has been a host institution for 17 excellent projects funded by the ERC (European Research Council), nine of them have been obtained during FP7 (4 StG, 1 CoG, 3 AdG, 1 PoC) and 8 under Horizon 2020 (3 StG, 4 CoG, 1 AdG).
Regarding the Marie Curie Actions, within the framework of FP7 UAB participated in a total of 45 projects (at least one for each action) and hosted 51 fellows.
For H2020 we are already participating in 19 Marie S. Curie Actions and coordinating 3 of them, one of them in the UAB team presenting this proposal. UAB is committed to improve its Human Resources policies in line with the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct of the Recruitment of Researchers and has been awarded the HR Excellence in Research. Given the multidisciplinary nature of the project and the role played by UAB it will participate in the project via three faculties: Politics and Sociology, Translation, and Psychology.
Role in the Project
Given the multidisciplinary nature of the project and the role played by UAB it will participate in the project via three faculties: Politics and Sociology, Translation, and Psychology. Pilar Orero will coordinate the UAB team. Ana Matamala, Helena Casas and Sara Rovira will take care of tests set up, ethical permissions and data protection. Olga Soler will supervise tests for the project regarding validity of set up and methodology for perception and cognition in usability. In terms of operational management capacity Pilar Orero has a lot of experience in the participation and indeed coordination of European projects such as HBB4ALL and ACT.
At present she leads EU funded project under ERASMUS KA2 named ACT and participates in ADLAB PRO; TransMedia Catalonia is also participating in two funded H2020 projects (2017-2020) ImAc and Easy TV, and leads the Marie Curie UMAQ. They are experts on the financial and management reporting requirements.
